General comments
De belangrijkste verwekker is S. aureus.
Reinigen en ontvetten van de ooglidrand alvorens gel aan te brengen is noodzakelijk.
Fusidinezuur is werkzaam tegen S. aureus en streptokokken. Er kan echter gemakkelijk resistentie ontstaan bij herhaald gebruik.
Bij hordeolum, niet reagerend op antimicrobiële therapie, is incisie c.q. drainage en kweek aangewezen.
