General comments
De behandeling bestaat uit lokale verwijdering van gedevitaliseerd weefsel of mastoïdectomie in combinatie met antimicrobiële therapie.
De meest voorkomende verwekkers zijn S. pneumoniae, H. influenzae, S. aureus en P. aeruginosa.
Kweken van pus is belangrijk teneinde de empirische antimicrobiële therapie op geleide van het antibiogram te kunnen versmallen c.q. aanpassen.
