General comments
Keuze behandeling wordt bepaald door uitslag kweek.
De belangrijkste verwekkers van een acute prostatitis zijn Gram-negatieve staven (E.coli in 70-80%).
Belangrijk is te vermelden dat er terughoudend gestart moet worden met antibiotica bij chronische prostatitis, aangezien slechts een beperkt deel bacterieel blijkt te zijn.
Ciprofloxacine is op dit moment het best werkzame middel bij prostatitis.
De effectiviteit van co-trimoxazol is nogal wisselend, falen van de therapie komt vrij frequent voor.
